Irvine Valley's men's tennis team had its chances, but lost to Riverside, 6-3, in an Orange Empire Conference match at home on Wednesday.
With the win, Riverside earned the OEC title.
Irvine Valley ends up in second place and its record went to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
IVC finishes up the regular season on Tuesday with a home OEC match against Saddleback at 2 p.m.
Irvine Valley took a 2-1 lead after doubles and had a chance to make it 3-0 with a match point on the second court, but the No. 2 team of sophomore Nicholas Villar and freshman Jonathan Hinkel ended up losing, 9-7, in a tiebreaker in the final set.
Irvine Valley's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Luis Moros and freshman Nevin McCann won, 8-6, and the No. 3 pair of Sufyan Ashraf and Lucas Diaz won, 8-3.
But Riverside captured five of six matches in singles, including winning on courts one through three and courts five and six.
Four of the six singles sets went to three sets.
Irvine Valley won at No. 4 singles with McCann taking a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.
