Men's tennis team defeats Linfield University, hosts RCC Thursday

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team improved its record to 8-1 overall with a solid 7-2 win over NCAA Division III Linfield University from Oregon on Wednesday at home.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 8-1 overall. IVC has won seven straight matches.

The Lasers won two of three matches in doubles and then captured five of the contests in singles.

Irvine Valley earned victories in doubles on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.

The team of freshmen Nicholas Villar and Jonathan Hinkel won on at No. 2, 8-3, and then sophomores Sufyan Ashraf and Lucas Diaz came out on top, 8-5, on the third court.

Irvine Valley had wins in singles by sophomore No. 1 Luis Moros (6-2, 6-1), No. 2 Diaz (7-5, 6-0), freshman No. 3 Nevin McCann (3-6, 6-3, 6-4), Hinkel at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1) and freshman Bradley Yung on the sixth court (6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (3).

IVC plays its biggest match of the season on Thursday at home, hosting Riverside at 2 p.m. in an Orange Empire Conference match.

Irvine Valley trails RCC by one match for first place in the conference standings.
