Men's tennis players among top seeds for state tourney

The list of seeds for the CCCAA Men's Tennis State Championships for singles and doubles are out.

And they are filled with Irvine Valley players.

IVC, which won the Orange Empire Conference title for the first time ever this season, has six players among the 33 singles seeds.

Freshman Guillermo Ucelay is Irvine Valley's highest seed.

He is third behind only Cerritos' Nathan Eshmade and Grossmont's Gustavo Castro.

Freshman Simon Guillin is seeded eighth, sophomore Steven Le is seeded 13th, freshman Kevin Pham is seeded 20th, sophomore James Lafond is seeded 28th and freshman Jack Divorty is seeded 32nd.

In doubles, IVC's team of Ucelay and Guillin is seeded fifth, the team of Le and Lafond is seeded 13th and the team of freshman Thomas Gibson and Divroty is seeded 18th.

The top seed in the doubles draw is the team of Eshmade and Amadi Kagoma of Cerritos.

The State Championships singles and doubles tournaments are April 24-27 in Ojai.

Irvine Valley is also trying to make it to Ojai as a team.

The Lasers will host the CCCAA Dual Team South Regional Championship final this Saturday at 2 p.m.

Irvine Valley, the No. 1 seed, will face No. 2 College of the Desert with a trip to the state final on the line.

IVC defeated No. 4 Mt. San Jacinto, 5-1, while Desert beat No. 3 Cerritos, 5-2, in semifinal matches on Tuesday.
