Seven Irvine Valley men's tennis players qualify for state

The Orange Empire Conference men's tennis finals finished up today at Irvine Valley College and there were solid results all around for the Lasers.

IVC sophomore Steven Le was the runner-up in the singles competition.

Irvine Valley also qualified a host of players to the state tournament at Ojai later this month.

In singles, Le, Guillermo Ucelay, Simon Guillin, Kevin Pham, Jack Divorty and James Lafond all qualified for Irvine Valley.

Lafond showed the heart of a champion in battling back for a win to qualify on Friday although cramping much of the match.

In doubles, IVC qualified the maximum three teams. Those heading to play in the Ojai state event are the duos of Ucelay and Guillin, Le and Lafond and Divorty and Thomas Gibson.

Irvine Valley will play again as a team on Tuesday in the Southern Regional Dual Team Championships.

IVC, the top-seeded squad in the region, will host No. 4 Mt. San Jacinto at 2 p.m.
