Men's tennis team hosts Mt. San Jacinto in regional semis

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team hosts Mt. San Jacinto in the 2014 CCCAA Dual Team South Regional Championship semifinals on Tuesday.

The Lasers, the top seed in the South, take on No. 4 Mt. San Jacinto at 2 p.m. on the IVC courts.

Irvine Valley, led by freshmen Guillermo Ucelay and Simon Guillin and sophomores Steven Le and James Lafond, has a record of 15-2 overall. The Lasers won their first ever Orange Empire Conference title with a record of 10-0.

IVC then captured its first ever playoff victory last Tuesday with a 5-1 win over No. 8 Grossmont.

Mt. San Jacinto has won three matches in a row and nine of its last 10.

Mt. San Jacinto has a record of 14-5 overall. It was 11-3 and took second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. College of the Desert, which is the second seed in the playoffs, won the conference at 14-0.

Mt. San Jacinto opened up the playoffs with a 5-3 win over No. 5 Glendale last Tuesday at home.

The Eagles are led by Vitor Galvao, Bruno Campos, Leo Matarazzo, Gabe da Costa, Thibaoud Garces and Thiago Trigo.

Galvao finished as the runner-up in the PCAC singles tournament and Galvao and Campos won their conference's doubles title.

The winner of the Mt. San Jacinto and Irvine Valley match will play the winner of College of the Desert and Cerritos in the title match on Saturday.

As the top seed, Irvine Valley would host on Saturday.
