Baseball team comes up short against Golden West

Irvine Valley's baseball team couldn't make it two straight wins.

The Lasers lost to Golden West, 9-4, in an Orange Empire Conference game on Tuesday at home.

IVC's record slipped to 7-19 overall and 3-11 in conference. Golden West improved to 14-15 overall and 5-9 in conference.

Irvine Valley right off the bat.

Golden West scored three runs in the top of the first inning.

IVC got a run back in the bottom of the first inning on a Golden West error.

The Rustlers added a run in the top of the second on a RBI single by Frank Califano, but the Lasers tied the game at 4-4, with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

With the bases loaded, freshman center fielder Brett Hamilton walked to bring in the first run of the inning.

Sophomore second baseman Dallas Porter followed with an RBI single and then IVC scored a third run on a Golden West error.

Golden West came up with what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Michael Farris.

The Rustlers added three runs in the top of the seventh and another in the top of the ninth for the final score.

Golden West finished with 13 hits, while IVC had seven hits.

Both teams had trouble in the field with the Rustlers committing five errors and IVC making two errors.

Farris led Golden West by going 3 for 5 with a walk and three RBI. Keegan Reese was 3 for 4 and Jordan Lucio went 2 for 4 with two RBI for Golden West.

For IVC, freshman left fielder Austin Charrette was 2 for 2 with a run scored.

Freshman left-hander Brett DaRe' (0-4) took the loss on the mound. He went three innings and allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and one strikeout.

Mitchel Moore earned the win for Golden West after going six innings and giving up four runs (none earned) on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The two teams play again on Thursday at Golden West. It is the final game of the three-game season series between the clubs.
