To say the Irvine Valley women's volleyball team, ranked No. 18 in the state, is on a roll would be an understatement.
The Lasers have won 18 straight sets, sweeping six Orange Empire Conference opponents in a row. The latest win came Friday night at No. 20 Orange Coast.
Irvine Valley, with starting freshman settier Maddie Harkey back in the lineup, defeated OCC, 25-11, 25-13, 25-15 to move into second place in the OEC standings.
Harkey missed Irvine Valley's match (a sweep) against Riverside on Wednesday at home with an injury.
She finished with 39 assists to lead the offense to a great performance against Orange Coast.
IVC hit .359 as a team on the night.
Freshman opposite Jayli Nealy, freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Sanchez and sophomore libero Alexandra Pestolis also had big matches.
Nealy, who leads the conference in kills per set, had 17.5 points on the night. She ended with 16 kills with just one error in 27 attempts (.556 hitting percentage).
Nealy had seven kills alone with no errors in eight attempts in the first set.
Sanchez, who filled in at setter on Wednesday against Riverside, went for 13 kills and five digs and hit .440.
Pestolis finished with 18 digs and three aces.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Guenter added eight kills and eight digs and freshman defensive specialist Alessandra Nitoglia contributed three aces for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in conference. It was also IVC's 19th win in a row against the Pirates.
Orange Coast fell to 16-3 overall and 9-3 in conference.
The Lasers play again next Wednesday, hosting No. 21 Golden West at 6 p.m.
