Women's volleyball team wins again, moves to 2-0 in OEC action

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team finished strong in its second Orange Empire Conference match of the season.

The Lasers, ranked No. 11 in the state, defeated Riverside, 25-14, 18-25, 25-20, 25-5, at Riverside on Friday night.

The 25-5 final set score was IVC's best of the year.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference. RCC went to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley won the first set, struggled in the second, but battled for a win in the third set and then dominated the final frame.

The Lasers were led by freshman opposite Jayli Nealy, who finished with 18 kills, five digs and five blocks. She ended with a match-high 21.5 points.

Freshman outside hitter Tasha Mae added 10 kills and 11 digs for the Lasers.

Freshman outside hitter Emily Guenter contributed eight kills and 12 digs, freshman middle blocker Kendall Fraser had seven kills and four blocks and sophomore libero Alexandra Pestolis ended with 11 digs and three assists.

Freshman setter Maddie Harkey had 39 assists and three aces to help the team in the victory.

Irvine Valley plays again, and at home, next Wednesday against Orange Coast at 6 p.m. It will be IVC's second home match of the season.

OCC is the only undefeated squad left in the state. The Pirates have a record of 10-0 and were ranked No. 15 in the state this week.
