Women's basketball faces Riverside at home Wednesday

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team will play its third game of the Orange Empire Conference campaign when it hosts Riverside at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

IVC is coming off one of its best victories of the season, winning at Cypress, 77-72, in an OEC game last Friday.

Riverside City College took on defending 3C2A State Champion Orange Coast College Friday night, but couldn't hold off the No. 3-ranked Pirates, and fell, 87-39, at home.

The Tigers saw their record drop to 9-9 overall and 0-2 in the Orange Empire Conference.

Talia Washington led RCC with 18 points, while N'Dya Parks added 11 points and Michelle Soto had 13 rebounds.

Shots weren't falling for Riverside as it shot 24.2 percent from the floor, including 23.1 percent from beyond the arc.

On the season, Talia Washington averages 19.5 points and 5.1 rebounds, N'Dya Parks is averaging 19.4 points and 11.7 rebounds Nave'ah Pina averages 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds and Ariel Perkins is averaging 4.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Tigers.

Irvine Valley went on the road last Friday and defeated No. 10 in the state Cypress, 77-72, in conference.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 9-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

It was the second win for Irvine Valley over a team ranked in the top 13 in the state in the last week.

IVC defeated previously No. 12 in the state San Diego Mesa, 46-45, the previous Friday at home.

The Lasers were led by sophomore guard Moka Saiki with 21 points.

She made 5 of 7 three-pointers. Saiki added eight assists and six rebounds.

Freshman forward Alexis Price had 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field. Price also had four rebounds and two blocks. Freshman forward Gianna DeForest contributed 16 points and six rebounds for IVC.

And freshman forward Neryah Lokeni chipped in nine points and four rebounds.

On the season, Saiki is averaging 12.8 points and 2.8 assists per game, freshman guard Samantha Barnett averages 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds and Price is averaging 9.5 points and 6.4 rebounds, and Lokeni averages 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for Irvine Valley.
