Former women's basketball player named coach at Armstrong State

Former Irvine Valley women's basketball player Fala Suiaunoa, now Fala Bullock, is the new head coach at Armstrong Atlantic State.

Bullock became the eighth head coach in Armstrong women's basketball history.

Bullock joined Armstrong from Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, Ga., where she started the program in 2011 and directed the Cougars to an impressive 25-6 record in just their second season of competition in 2012-13, advancing to the GCAA Championships.

Bullock was also the assistant coach as well as the Senior Woman's Administator (SWA) at Columbus State for two years.

The Cougars compiled a 32-23 record in her two seasons with the program.

A former two-year standout at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla, Bullock earned her bachelor's of science degree in health and human performance from Northeastern State in 2004 as well as her master's of science degree in kinesiology from Northeastern State in 2006.

She served as a graduate assistant for her alma mater from 2004-06, then spent one season as an assistant coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College before moving on to NCAA Division II Midwestern State as an assistant coach from 2007-09.

The Irvine native began her intercollegiate career at Irvine Valley from 1999-2001 and transferred to Northeastern State as a junior.

At Irvine Valley, she helped lead the Lasers to a record of 45-10 in her two years and two trips to the Southern California Regional Playoff Finals. She led the team in scoring her sophomore year at 13.1 points per game and made a school-record at the time 71 three-pointers. She was also named first team all-conference.

Bullock led Northeastern State to a Lone Star Conference championship and a first NCAA postseason berth as the team's captain in 2003.

She also starred at local University High in Irvine where she was named first team all-league twice and averaged 18.5 points a game as a senior.

Bullock and her husband, Dermayne, were married in June of 2011.

The Armstrong Atlantic State team is off to a 5-2 start this season.
