Women's basketball team back in the rankings

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team is back in the rankings.

The Lasers are ranked No. 15 in this week's CCCWBCA South Region Poll.

Irvine Valley had slipped out of the poll after starting Orange Empire Conference play with three straight losses.

But IVC has now won four straight games, including beating Cypress, 74-70, in overtime last Friday night at Cypress to open the second round of conference play.

Sophomore forward Taylor Casey led the way with 21 points. Freshman forward Alexis Casillas added 20 points and 12 rebounds, freshman center Breanna Turner had a strong game with 17 points and freshman guard Kendall Peterson chipped in nine points.

Irvine Valley out-rebounded Cypress, 38-29, and had less turnovers than Cypress (15 to 8)

Irvine Valley improved its record to 14-8 overall and 4-3 in conference.

The Lasers are currently in fourth place in conference, but just a half a game behind Orange Coast for third place.

Irvine Valley plays at Orange Coast this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
