Women's basketball team takes third in Pasadena tourney

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a win in the third-place game of the Rose City Classic at Pasadena City College on Saturday.

The Lasers, ranked 18th in the state, lost to No. 6, Long Beach City, 63-60, on Friday

But IVC came back with a win over host and ninth-ranked Pasadena City on Saturday.

Irvine Valley pulled off a 70-58 victory to take the third-place trophy.

Four players scored in double figures for IVC.

Sophomore guard Jasmine Kennon led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kiara King added 15 points and three assists.

Sophomore forward Diona Andrews contributed 11 points and sophomore forward/center Taylor Casey had 10 points and seven rebounds for IVC.

Freshman forward Alexis Casillas chipped in nine points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals for IVC.

Irvine Valley held Pasadena City to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field in the game, while the Lasers shot 44.4 percent.

Casey was named to the all-tournament team for Irvine Valley.

Irvine Valley is 2-1 on the season and plays in the Glendale tournament this week.
