Women's basketball team makes it two in a row in conference

​Irvine Valley women's basketball team turned in a big second half and pulled away for a 74-50 win over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference game at home on Tuesday night.

Irvine Valley got standout performances from a number of players in the contest.

Freshman forward Alexis Casillas finished with a season-high 21 rebounds to go along with 10 points and six assists. Casillas recorded six offensive rebounds and 15 defensive rebounds in the game.

She had 13 rebounds at the half.

Sophomore forward Taylor Casey had her best game in conference play so far with 18 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Kendall Peterson chipped in 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, including 4 of 5 from three-point range.

And freshman guard Karli Kate also made two three-pointers and contributed 10 points for IVC.

Irvine Valley led just, 29-28, at the half, but out-scored Fullerton, 22-4, in the first eight minutes of the second half to take a commanding 51-32 lead.

The Lasers cruised from there.

In all, Irvine Valley out-scored Fullerton, 45-22, in the second half of action.

Irvine Valley shot 43.5 percent (30 of 69) from the game, while Fullerton shot 32.7 percent (17 of 52). The Hornets shot 26.9 percent (7 of 26) in the second half.

Fullerton also made just 1 of 13 three-point attempts in the contest.

Irvine Valley out-rebounded Fullerton, 46-35.

The Lasers also had 24 assists on their 30 made baskets with all nine players recording at least one assist.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 13-8 overall and 2-3 in conference. The win was the team's second in a row.

Fullerton, which got 18 points and six rebounds from Kelli Calton and 10 points and six rebounds from Noelle Cobb, saw its record slip to 5-14 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, traveling to Riverside for a 7:30 p.m. game. The contest is the final one of the first round of conference play.
