Men's basketball team bounces back with a win

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 69-55 win over LA Trade Tech in a consolation contest in the Saddleback Tournament on Friday.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 1 in the state, fell to No. 18 Mt. San Jacinto, 59-41, on Thursday.

Friday afternoon in the first game of the day at Saddleback, Irvine Valley got 22 points from sophomore guard Shaquille Hunter, 13 points from freshman guard Jalen Hall and 11 points and 11 rebounds from sophomore center Declan Daly in the victory over Trade Tech.

Hunter was 5 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 7 from the three-point line. He also sent 8 of 8 from the free throw line.

IVC led, 31-23, at halftime and out-scored Trade Tech, 38-32, in the second half.

Irvine Valley was out-rebounded, 41-31, and both teams shot just 39 percent from the field. But IVC made seven three-pointers to one for Trade Tech and the Lasers sank six more free throws (16 to 10).

IVC was 16 of 18 from the free throw line.

Freshman guard Jimmy Golden added six points and sophomore guard Dathon Spencer, sophomore forward Austin Priest and freshman center Andrew Bastien each contributed four points for the Lasers.

Bastien also had six rebounds.

Irvine Valley will take on Long Beach City in the consolation final of the tournament on Saturday at noon. IVC defeated LBCC, 82-68, earlier this season in the Irvine Valley Classic-.
