Men's basketball team wins Monterey Tournament

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team won three more games and took the title at the Monterey Peninsula Tournament this weekend.

Irvine Valley, ranked 11th in the state, improved its record to 9-0 with the wins.

Irvine Valley started the tournament with a 55-29 win over West Valley on Thursday. The 29 points was the least given up in program history by the Lasers.

Irvine Valley then defeated Canada, 86-73, on Friday.

In Saturday's final, the Lasers came from behind to beat host Monterey Peninsula, 56-42.

The Lasers trailed by eight points at halftime.

Irvine Valley sophomore center Declan Daly was named tournament MVP and freshman point guard Jalen Hall was selected to the all-tournament team.

Irvine Valley plays again next Thursday through Saturday in the Santa Barbara City tournament. IVC opens on Thursday against Bakersfield at 9 p.m.
