Irvine Valley's men's basketball team stayed on a roll to open Orange Empire Conference play.
The Lasers, ranked No. 13 in the state, improved their record to 17-1 overall and 2-0 in conference with a 72-52 win over Orange Coast at home on Friday night.
The win comes after IVC opened conference on Wednesday night with a 33-point win over Cypress.
Irvine Valley never trailed on Friday.
IVC went on an early 5-0 run to take a 12-4 lead. Sophomore guard Shaquille Hunter made a layup and freshman forward Chris Porter hit a three-pointer.
Eighth straight points by IVC shortly after moved the Lasers' lead into double figures.
A jumper and then two free throws by freshman guard Ronnie Harris gave Irvine Valley a 23-10 lead with 10:54 left in the first half.
Orange Coast (6-12) got within 28-20 after two free throws by Devaun Evans with 6:28 to play in the opening half.
IVC led, 37-26, at halftime.
Harris had 11 points and sophomore center Declan Daly had 12 rebounds for IVC in the first half. The Lasers out-rebounded Orange Coast, 26-10, in the opening half.
Orange Coast came out strong early in the second half. The Pirates scored the first five points. A basket by Spencer Poston pulled the Pirates within 37-31 two minutes into the half.
But the Lasers were back in front by 11 points after a layup by Hunter and two free throws by freshman guard Jalen Hall with 15:47 to play.
IVC stretched its lead to 51-37 on two free throws by Hunter with 13:42 left.
Orange Coast got within nine points one more time, but Irvine Valley put the game away with a 9-0 run. A three-point play by Hunter made it a 60-42 game with 4:55 left.
Irvine Valley took its largest lead at 70-47 after a free throw by freshman guard Jimmy Golden with 1:13 to play.
Irvine Valley was led by Hunter, who had 23 points. He scored 16 points in the second half.
Harris added 15 points, Porter added eight points and freshman guard Chris Salas had seven points. Daly finished with 17 rebounds.
Irvine Valley out-rebounded Orange Coast, 42-20, for the game.
The Lasers did commit 21 turnovers.
IVC shot 49 percent (24 of 49) from the field and made 18 of 20 free throws (90 percent).
Orange Coast got 10 points and three steals from Poston and nine points apiece from Evans, Noah Prouse and Lafayette Kittrell. Evans also had five steals and Prouse contributed four blocks.
The Pirates shot 31.1 percent (14 of 45) from the field for the game.
Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday and it is a big one. The Lasers travel to rival Saddleback for a 5:30 p.m. tilt. Saddleback is ranked eighth in the state.
Orange Coast hosts Cypress next Wednesday.
