Irvine Valley standout baseball players Caden Byers and Shane Stafford have committed to the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The two sophomores both shined for the Lasers in 2024.
Byers, a right-handed pitcher was selected first team all-Orange Empire Conference and Stafford, who played center field, was selected second team in the OEC.
Byers threw 74.1 innings for the Lasers and had a record of 6-3 overall.
He finished with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. Byers struck out 59 batters on the year.
In conference action, he went 3-2 in 41.1 innings and ended with a 4.57 ERA. Byers struck out 30 batters.
Stafford batted .289 on the season with a .372 on base percentage and .546 slugging percentage.
As the biggest offensive threat in the IVC lineup, Stafford hit nine home runs with 12 doubles, 34 RBI and seven stolen bases.
In OEC play, he batted .262 with five home runs, 17 RBI and a .500 slugging percentage.
The two are headed to a UNLV squad that had a record of 26-26 overall last season.
