Pitcher Matthew Wilson off to New Mexico Highlands University

Irvine Valley sophomore left-handed pitcher Matthew Wilson has committed to NCAA Division II New Mexico Highlands University.

Wilson, a 6-2 lefty out of Marina High in Huntington Beach, saw action in nine games for the Lasers this past season. He averaged 8.31 strikeouts per nine innings.

Wilson threw 8.2 innings for the Lasers.

He helped IVC finish with a record of 14-26 overall.

Wilson red-shirted at Cerritos College in 2022 and then appeared in seven games for the Falcons during the 2023 campaign. 

Wilson is headed to a New Mexico Highlands squad that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

He was voted his team's pitcher of the year as a senior at Marina after striking out 91 batters in 43 innings.
