Former Irvine Valley all-Orange Empire Conference baseball player Jordan Gillerman is headed to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship with St. John's University.

St. John's is set to play at the Clemson regional after beating Seton Hall, 7-0, on Sunday to capture the Big East Conference Championship.

St. John's is seeded third in the region and will take on No. 2 Vanderbilt on Friday to start the NCAA tourney.

Entering the regional with a record of 39-15 and an RPI of 27, St. John's will face the Commodores (31-25) in the opener for the second-straight year. Last season, the Red Storm jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth before Vanderbilt mounted a comeback.

2018 marks the St. John's program's 37th NCAA Tournament appearance, tied for eighth most in college baseball history with Oklahoma and Southern California. St. John's has made the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 15 seasons.

Last weekend's Big East championship was St. John's record ninth.

Gillerman, a senior, started for the  Red Storm at shortstop in the tournament.

On the season, he has batted .283 (26 of 92) with 14 runs scored and 10 RBI.

St. John's has a record of 39-15 on the year.

Gillerman was a first team all-OEC player for IVC in 2016.

He hit a team-best .367 with 51 hits, 10 doubles and 26 RBI and had 15 multi-hit games, including eight contests with three or more hits.

Gillerman was also Irvine Valley's Orange Empire Conference Character Champion winner for the 2015-16 school year.

And he helped IVC to one of its best-ever seasons as a freshman in 2015, as the Lasers won their final six regular season games to clinch a spot in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
