Irvine Valley's baseball team watched Golden West walk off with a win in the bottom of the ninth in the first game of an Orange Empire Conference series on Tuesday at Golden West.
The Lasers returned the favor on Thursday at home.
Freshman shortstop Dustin Angus hit a ground ball that got through the left side of the infield to score sophomore first baseman Cooper Moore from third base and give IVC a 4-3 victory over the Rustlers.
With the three-game series now tied at a game apiece, the finale will be Saturday at Golden West at noon.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 12-10 overall and 2-3 in conference, while Golden West fell to 11-9 overall and 2-3 in conference.
With Thursday's game tied, 3-3, Moore scorched a double down the left field line with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
He moved to third on a groundout and Golden West pitcher Eric Romo intentionally walked IVC's top hitter and leadoff man Ben McConnell to put runners on first and third with two outs.
McConnell, a freshman center fielder, took second base and it was all up to Angus, who came into the game midway through after missing the last two weeks with an injury.
He struck out in his first at bat of the game, but made a solid play in the field in the top of the eighth inning to help IVC get out of a jam.
And then Angus came through when his team needed him in the ninth inning.
Moore had a big game for the Lasers, going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, one run scored and one RBI. Moore gave Irvine Valley a 3-2 lead with an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lasers trailed 2-0, but scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman third baseman David Rojas knocked in Irvine Valley's first run on the game with a groundout in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Golden West tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Ezele Wicks.
Freshman righty Chad Burchit picked up the win and moved to 2-2 on the year. He threw 1.1 innings and didn't allow a hit or a run and had one walk.
Freshman right-hander Keenan Cisneros started for IVC on the mound and went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Romo took the loss, He went 3.2 innings and gave up one run on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Jeremiah Vison and Trent Whitaker each had two hits on the day for the Rustlers.
