Beach volleyball team captures two matches at home Friday

The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team remained at the top of the Orange Empire Conference standings with two more wins on Friday at home.

The Lasers defeated Fullerton, 5-0, and then Orange Coast, 4-1, in conference matches.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 10-4 overall and 9-0 in the OEC.

IVC picked up a default win on the fifth court and won all four other pairs matches against Fullerton in the opening match of the day.

The sophomore pair of Tessa Marocco and Kenzie Dews won, 25-9, 25-9, on the first court the No. 2 pair of sophomore pair of Natalia Brandlin and freshman Audrey Fowler came out on top, 25-10, 25-9, freshman Avery Bennett and sophomore Mia Bertolone won, 25-10, 25-9, on court three and the pair of freshman Halen Kiefer and sophomore Felicia Bonus won, 25-9, 25-9, earned a victory on at No. 4 against Fullerton.

IVC had to battle in its second match of the day. The Lasers won in three sets on the first, second and fourth courts to earn the overall win.

Marocco and Dews rallied to win, 18-21, 21-19, 16-14 on the first court, Brandlin and Fowler fought for a 21-15, 16-21, 15-11 victory on court No. 2 and Bonus and Kiefer won, 20-22, 23-21, 16-14 on the fourth court for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley also earned a straight-set (the second of the day) from Bennett and Bertolone, 25-18, 25-19 at No. 3.

The Lasers play again next Friday against Fullerton and Saddleback with Fullerton hosting.
