In leading up to the official start of the 2024-25 athletics campaign at Irvine Valley, which starts on Aug. 23 with the IVC women's soccer team hosting Pasadena City at 3 p.m. and the IVC women's vollyeball team playing at Moorpark at 1:00 pm, Irvine Valley's Athletic Department will count down the top 10 stories from the 2023-24 year.
The No. 3 story on the list for 2023-24 season is the Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team going 15-4 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the Orange Empire Conference to claim a conference championship.
The Lasers closed out the title by defeating Riverside, 5-0, on sophomore day at home on Apr. 14.
Sophomore players honored IVC also honored included Tessa Marocco, Kenzie Dews, Natalia Brandlin, Mia Bertolone, Ava Guenther and Felicia Bonus.
Irvine Valley won four of the five matches on that Friday in straight sets.
The duo of Marocco and Dews won, 21-12, 21-12 on the first court.
The No. 2 team of Brandlin and freshman Audrey Fowler came out on top, 21-14, 21-16.
Bertolone and freshman Avery Bennett won, 21-9, 21-11 at No. 3
The team of Guenther and Bonus earned a 21-19, 21-11 victory on the fourth court.
And the No. 5 duo of freshmen Nikki Korneff and Alya Mersin rallied for a 9-21, 21-15, 17-15 win to end things for the Lasers.
Folliowing the team championship, Brandlin and Fowler out-lasted teammates Marocco and Dews to claim the OEC individual pairs championship in three sets on Apr. 28 at IVC.
And Marocco and Dews then made an impressive run at the 3C2A State individual pairs championship where the duo finished sixth overall on May 12-13 at West Valley.
