The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team opened its season with a pair of matches on Friday at home.
The Lasers hosted Cerritos and four-year St. Katherine from San Diego.
Irvine Valley came out on top, 3-2, over Cerritos with its top three pairs all winning matches.
IVC played St. Katherine tough on four of the courts, but ultimately lost, 5-0.
Against Cerritos, Irvine Valley's No. 1 pair of sophomores Tessa Marocco and Kenzie Dews won, 21-16, 21-16, and No. 2 team of sophomore Natalia Brandlin and freshman Halen Keifer came out on top, 21-9, 21-6.
The Lasers sealed the match with a win on the third court. The pair of sophomore Mia Bertolone and freshman Avery Bennett earned a 21-16, 21-16 victory.
IVC's No. 4 pair of sophomore Felicia Bonus and freshman Ava Guenther lost in three tough sets.
Against St. Katherine, IVC took two matches to three sets (courts one and three) and lost two more in tight two-set contests. Marocco and Dews fell, 15-11, in the third set on the first court.
The Lasers play again next Wednesday hosting MiraCosta at 10 a.m. and Westcliff at noon.
