Women's soccer team holds its own with Santiago Canyon

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team might have fallen to Santiago Canyon, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference match.

But the Lasers showed fight against one of the top teams in the state.

Irvine Valley's record went to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in conference and Santiago Canyon improved to 7-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the OEC.

IVC has another important match on Friday traveling to fourth-place in the conference Orange Coast at 3 p.m.

Irvine Valley currently sits in fifth-place in the OEC.

The Lasers held their own in the first half and the game went into the break scoreless.

Santiago Canyon pushed forward more in the second half and took 13 shots and scoring twice. 

Scarlett Serpas scored off of a corner kick from Jordyn Lamastra in the 59th minute and then Samantha Aguila found the back of the net off of a long cross on the right side from Christina Benavidas in the 83rd minute.

IVC's chances on goal came early from freshman midfielder Emiley Orosco and sophomore forward Jordan Madison.

Sophomore keeper Sydnee Salamoff made six saves in goal for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday in another conference match at Orange Coast at 3 p.m.
