Men's volleyball team loses marathon match at Grossmont

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team lost a marathon match Wednesday night in Pacific Coast Conference action.

The Lasers fell to Grossmont on the road.

The Griffins came out on top, 34-32, 17-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-9.

It was IVC's first loss in conference play.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.

The Lasers missed out on five set-point opportunities in the opening set. They were also up, 14-10, in the fourth set before Grossmont rallied.

IVC hit just .166 as a team in the match.

Sophomore middle blocker Kevin Dell did hit well, finishing with a .414 clip.

Dell ended with 16 kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Cole Murray led with 18 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Peter Van Liefde contributed 16 kills, seven digs, three blocks and four aces.

Sophomore middle blocker Matt Mittry had eight kills and five blocks.

Sophomore setter Arek Halaj finished with 54 assists and six digs and sophomore libero Billy Crow had 18 digs.

Irvine Valley is back home on Friday night, hosting Miramar at 6 p.m.
