Men's volleyball team sees season end in loss at El Camino

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team's season came to an end on Friday night in its opening game of the CCCAA playoffs.

The Lasers, the third-place team out of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, lost at El Camino in three sets.

El Camino, which took second in the Western State Conference, came out on top,  25-16, 25-22, 27-25.

El Camino moved on to the CCCAA State Championships semifinals next week at San Diego City College.

Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 13-6 overall.

Irvine Valley hit just .211 in the match at El Camino. The Lasers had 37 kills to 21 hitting errors.

IVC also finished with 14 serving errors.

Sophomore outside hitter Cole Murray did hit .312 and finished with nine kills to pace IVC's offense.

Freshman outside hitter Peter Van Liefde had eight kills and hit .455.

Sophomore opposite Arek Halaj finished with six kills and 15 assists.

Sophomore libero Billy Crow had six digs and freshman setter Jake Adams contributed 20 assists.

Irvine Valley will lose several important sophomores from the squad, including Murray, Halaj, Crow, outside hitters Josh Schmidt and Trey Bernal, middle blockers Kevin Dell, Matt Mittry and Nate Kofman.

Murray has signed with Division 1 Loyola of Chicago to play next year and Schmidt is headed to UC San Diego to continue his career.
