In leading up to the start of the 2016-17 athletics campaign at Irvine Valley, which starts on Aug. 26 with women's soccer hosting LA Harbor, the Laser athletic department will be counting down the top 10 IVC sports stories from the 2015-16 school year.
The countdown will begin next week with the No. 10 story and will culminate with the top sports story from another impressively successful athletics year at Irvine Valley.
Among the many highlights from the year included Irvine Valley won its second straight state title in men's tennis, had both the singles and doubles state champions in men's tennis, saw its top pairs sand volleyball team win a state title, had its women's basketball team make the Southern California Regional finals for the second straight year and saw the men's soccer team win an Orange Empire Conference title and finish ranked nationally.
The top story from the previous year in 2014-15 was star volleyball player Annie Mitchem's domiant run that included three state titles and once again being named the two-year colleges national player of the year by the AVCA.
