Irvine Valley's men's tennis team earned a big-time win on Wednesday morning at home.
The Lasers edged Case Western Reserve, the No. 6-ranked team in NCAA Division 3. IVC handed Case Western just its second loss of the season.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 11-2 overall, while Case Western dropped to 10-2.
Case Western is in Southern California during its spring break to take on a number of teams and also play in the 2016 Stag-Hen Invitational at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont. The event features the top-ranked teams in Division 3.
IVC has now topped four-year schools Hope International, Concordia and Case Western this season. The team's two losses are to four-year schools San Diego Christian and Point Loma Nazarene.
Irvine Valley won two of three doubles matches to start on Wednesday.
Sophomore Sam Cohen and freshman Javier Callejo won at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, and sophomores Scott Paz and Flavien Raveau pulled out a tough 9-7 victory at the No. 2 position.
In singles, IVC got wins at the third, fifth and six spots. Callejo won, 6-0, 6-1, over Robert Stroup at the No. 3 position. Freshman Octave Bellet came through with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kevin Dong at No. 5 singles and sophomore Bruno Figlia sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Josh Dughi.
Cohen split sets at No. 1 singles with CJ Krimbill, but had to retire after the second set. Krimbill remained undefeated on the season in singles for Case Western.
Irvine Valley gets back to Orange Empire Conference action tomorrow when it travels to Riverside for a 2 p.m. match.
IVC, ranked No. 1 in Southern California, is currently undefeated at 5-0 in conference action.
