Men's soccer player Sean Goode ready to go at Cal Poly

Former Irvine Valley men's soccer player Sean Goode will be playing at NCAA Division 1 Cal Poly this fall.

Goode finished a standout sophomore year at IVC in 2016.

Last fall, Goode, who was a forward, helped the Lasers finish with a record of 16-5-3 overall, take second in the Orange Empire Conference, win two playoff games and make a Southern California Regional Playoff Final for the second year in a row.

IVC ended up ranked seventh in the state and 10th in the nation among community colleges.

Goode was named to the 2016 California Community College Soccer Coaches Association Southern California All-Region Team.

Goode was one of six forwards in Southern California that were selected.

In all, 18 players were picked to the So. Cal. squad.

Goode had already been named first team all-Orange Empire Conference.

Goode paced Irvine Valley's offensive attack last fall.

He scored a team-high 20 goals and added five assists for 45 points.

Goode scored five game-winning goals and had three matches with three goals or more, including scoring four times in Irvine Valley's 5-0 conference win over Cypress on Oct. 25.

Goode led the conference in goals at the end of the year and was second in points.

He played his freshman year for IVC in 2014 and scored nine goals with four assists.

Goode started 32 times in 43 career appearances for IVC.

The former Santa Margarita High star is headed to a Cal Poly program that finished with a record of 5-9-3 overall and was 3-5-2 in conference.

Cal Poly is coached by former United States Men's National Team and Major League Soccer coach Steve Sampson. Former Irvine Valley associate head coach Shaun Harris is part of the coaching staff at Cal Poly.

Cal Poly plays its alumni match on Sunday, Aug. 13, an exhibition against Fresno Pacific on Aug. 16 at home and officially opens the regular season in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament against the Indiana University on the campus of Notre Dame on Friday, Aug. 25.
