Irvine Valley's men's soccer team opened the Hartnell College Tournament in Salinas with a 2-0 win over Lake Tahoe on Friday morning.

Lake Tahoe was a semifinalist in the state tournament a season ago.

Irvine Valley stayed unbeaten so far this season, moving to 2-0 overall.

Irvine Valley scored both of its goals in the first half and both came from sophomore forward Connor Elder. Elder, who was a second-team all-Orange Empire Conference player a year ago, recorded his first two goals of the season.

Elder scored in the 29th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jose Gamboa and then found the back of the net again in the 41st minute off an assist from freshman foward Daniel Segal

Irvine Valley recorded 13 shots on goal, while the IVC defense limited Lake Tahoe to just six shots on goal.

Freshman goalie Blake Sigler had five saves for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley, which won two matches and tied another in the Harntell Tournament a year ago, moves on to the semifinals on Saturday where it will play the winner of the San Diego Mesa and Fresno City match.
