The Irvine Valley men's soccer team bounced back from a rough match last Friday with a convincing win Tuesday at home.

The Lasers scored three second-half goals and defeated Glendale, 5-1, in a nonconference contest.

IVC, which fell to Santa Ana, 2-0, on the road last Friday, improved its record to 9-3-0 overall. Glendale, which played most of the game with 10 men after seeing a player get a red card in the 13th minute, slipped to 4-5-1 overall.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-0-0 at home on the year. IVC has out-scored its opponents, 24-3, at home.

It was the third time that Irvine Valley has scored at least five goals in a match this season. All three games have also come at home.

Irvine Valley received one goal and one assist from both sophomore forward Connor Elder and sophomore midfielder Jose Rivera. Elder's goal in the 17th minute got IVC on the board. It was his eighth goal of the season, which ranks second on the team.

Rivera scored his fourth goal and picked up his seventh assist. He leads the squad in assists. His goal, which came on a deflection off a Glendale player, put Irvine Valley in front, 2-0, in the 25th minute.

Wilkins Salas scored in the 31st minute for Glendale to make it a 2-1 game heading into halftime.

But sophomore midfielder Joseph Ferguson, sophomore forward Sean Goode and freshman forward Daniel Segal came through with goals for the Lasers in the second half.

Ferguson earned his first goal of the season, scoring on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, which put Irvine Valley ahead, 3-1.

Goode found the back of the net three minutes later off an assist from Elder to make it 41. Goode's goal was his team-leading 10th of the year.

And Segal scored his fourth goal of the year in the 83rd minute to wrap IVC's goals on the day.

Freshmen goalies Blake Sigler and Colin Smith each played a half in goal and each made one save.

Irvine Valley is back in conference action on Friday, hosting Golden West in a big match at 3 p.m.
