Irvine Valley's men's soccer team shot up the California Community College Athletics Association state poll this week after two solid wins in Orange Empire Conference action.
The Lasers moved up to No. 8 in the state poll this week. And Irvine Valley is the third team ranked in Southern California after Mt. SAC and Taft.
Irvine Valley, which leads its conference with a 3-0-0 record, only trails Mt. SAC, Fresno City, Hartnell, Feather River, De Anza, Taft and Santa Rosa in the state poll.
Following Irvine Valley at No. 9 is Golden West and Santa Ana is 10th (two other OEC teams) to round out the top 10 in the state.
Irvine Valley won at Fullerton, 3-2, last Tuesday and then put together a phenomenal second half in a 5-0 win over Cypress at home last Friday.
Irvine Valley has a record of 7-2-0 overall. It leads Fullerton by one match in the loss column in the standings.
The Lasers are led by sophomore forwards Connor Elder and Sean Goode, who have seven goals each. They are tied for the conference lead in goals.
Elder is also tied for the confernce lead in points with 16 and Goode is third with 14 points.
Freshman keeper Blake Sigler is tops in the conference in saves with 41, save percentage at .820 and third in goals against average at 1.13.
Sophomore midfielder Jose Rivera is tied for the lead in assists in the conference with six and sophomore midfielder Jose Gamboa is third with four assists.
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday at home, hosting Orange Coast in a conference match at 3 p.m.
