Former Irvine Valley men's basketball standout Charlie Henderson had a special 2023-24 season at NCAA Divsion II Cal State San Marcos.
The post player was named an honorable mention player by the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Henderson was CSUSM's second-leading scorer at 12.7 points per game.
The Mission Viejo native had the third-best field-goal percentage in the CCAA at 53.1% and ranked 10th with 6.3 rebounds per game.
He was also the fifth-best shot blocker in the conference with 23 total blocks and 0.96 per game. Henderson ended the season with five double-double performances.
The 6-8 Henderson, who went to Santa Margarita High, was named second team all-Orange Empire Conference for Irvine Valley after the 2022-23 season
He led the Lasers in scoring (13.3 points), rebounds (9.8) and blocks (1.4) on the season.
The post player scored in double figures in 17 games this past season with six games scoring more than 20 points.
His high was 28 points in a 68-61 loss at home to Santa Ana on Jan. 9.
Henderson recorded 15 games with double-digit rebounds, including five straight contests in December. Over those five games he had 57 boards.
He shot 50.2 percent from the field (147 of 293) on the season and 50.3 in conference action.
For a big man, Henderson was also a 38.5 percent three-point shooter (25 of 65) in the OEC.
Henderson showed much improvement in his sophomore season after averaging 6.9 points and 5.8 rebounds during his freshman year during the 2021-22 campaign.
Cal State San Marcos had a record of 10-18 overall this past season and went 9-13 in the CCAA.
