Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team was ranked No. 2 in the state in the first California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association poll of the season, which was released on Monday
The Lasers are off to a 5-0 start and have swept all five opponents.
They won two matches easily last Friday at home as part of the Irvine Valley Classic, defeating Palomar, 25-14, 25-9, 25-5 and then topping Cal Lutheran's Junior Varsity team, 25-14, 25-11, 25-6.
Irvine Valley hit an impressive .534 in the win over Palomar.
Sophomore outside hitter Gabriela Griego finished with 13 kills and no errors in 14 attempts (.929 hitting percentage).
Sophomore outside hitters Lea Kruse and Alaina Gendale each added eight kills. Kruse also had 13 digs and four aces and Gendale contributed 11 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Alma Entesari had four kills, freshman defensive specialist Lexie Pereira had six digs and sophomore setter Truth Hafey recorded 40 assists and five digs.
The Lasers also cruised in their match against the Cal Lu JV squad with sophomore Kristin Austin, normally a middle blocker, setting most of the last two sets and contributing 28 assists.
Freshman middle blocker Helen Reynolds had 11 kills with just one error in 14 swings.
Griego added 10 kills and Gendale had nine kills.
The Lasers will look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday when they host No. 21 Long Beach City College.
Long Beach City has a record of 3-3 overall.
LBCC traveled to Santa Barbara City and participated in the SBCC Quad Tournament last Saturday.
The Vikings fell to No. 4 Bakersfield in a tough match, 17-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-13. Anisa Lopez led the Vikings with 19 kills and hit .640.
Doris Woods finished with 19 digs and setter Jillian Petnicki totaled 43 assists.
Long Beach City swept host Santa Barbara City, 25-21, 25-12, 25-21, in the second match.
Callissa Candalot led the team with 13 kills and Woods had two aces to help lead the way.
Lopez is averaging 3.27 kills, Candalot 2.65 kills and Woods averaging 4.19 digs per set for Long Beach City on the year so far.
Irvine Valley is also home on Friday, taking on No. 11 MIraCosta at 5 p.m.
