Volleyball star setter Truth Hafey commits to Georgia State

Irvine Valley women's volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi announced that sophomore star Truth Hafey has committed to play at NCAA Division I Georgia State in the fall.

Hafey has been the starting setter for the Lasers the past two seasons.

And what a two years it has been for Irvine Valley.

She has helped lead IVC to a record of 48-3 overall and 30-1 in the Orange Empire Conference over that span.

The Lasers won two conference titles and made two trips to the California Community College Athletic Associatiion State Championship.

IVC reached the semifinals and finished tied for third in 2018 and were the runner-up after dropping a tough, five-set match to Feather River in the title contest in 2019.

The 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-28, 15-11 defeat was Irvine Valley's only loss of the season. The team finished 27-1 overall and 16-0 in conference. The Lasers lost only 11 sets all season.

Hafey set the Irvine Valley record for most assists in a season this past year, finishing with 1,138. She led the state in assists per set at 12.37.

Thanks to Hafey IVC had a hitting percentage of .306 as a team, which was third best in the state.

Hafey recorded at least 40 assists in 17 of IVC's matches and topped the 50-assist mark five times. Her season high was 54 in the Lasers' four-set win at Cypress on Nov. 15.

And in the three matches in the state tournament, Hafey recorded assist numbers of 53, 52 and 51.

The former Fruita High (Colorado) standout was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference and was also selected to the All-Southern California Region team by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Association.

She was also part of the Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team in 2019 that won a conference title, finished third in the state and was ranked No. 3 in the final AVCA state poll.

Hafey is headed to a Georgia State squad that plays in the Sun Belt Conference. The squad went 10-17 overall last season and 6-10 in conference.
