Irvine Valley's women's soccer team earned its third straight positive result with a 2-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Norco on Tuesday at home.

The Lasers defeated Santa Ana and tied Golden West last week.

Tuesday's win improved Irvine Valley's record to 5-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in conference.

IVC stayed in fifth place in the conference standings.

Irvine Valley out-shot Norco, 19-1, in the contest.

The Lasers got on the board in the 19th minute. Sophomore defender Rosa Soto-Aleman made a run up the field and was taken down in the box by a Norco defender.

Freshman forward Emily Rodriguez converted the penalty kick, beating Norco's keeper with a hard shot to the left side.

Norco had its best chance to score just minutes later. Kassandra Ramirez got free behind the IVC defense, but Laser sophomore keeper Yesenia Pulido made a nice save.

Irvine Valley sophomore midfielders Payton Purcell and Danielle Lefebvre each had shots saved by Norco keeper Felicia Lucero and freshman defender Ashley Ruiz headed one over the top for IVC later in the first half.

Irvine Valley led, 1-0, at the half.

IVC continued to pressure in the second half. And in the 63rd minute, sophomore forward Lexi Benedict gave the Lasers some breathing room.

Sophomore midfielder Vanessa Gonzalez sent a corner kick in from the right side that found its way through several players. Benedict was in the right spot on the back post and tapped the ball home.

It was Benedict's team-high 11th goal of the season.

Benedict ranks second in the conference in goals and fourth in points.

Irvine Valley ended up taking 10 shots total in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net again.

Pulido had to make just one save on the afternoon. She recorded her second shutout of the season.

The Lasers play again on Friday, hosting Saddleback at 3 p.m. It is the first match of the second round of conference play.
