Irvine Valley's women's soccer team stayed right with one of the best teams in the state last Friday in Orange Empire Conference play.

Santiago Canyon, ranked 18th in the nation by the NSCAA, got a goal from Savannah Knight in the first 90 seconds and then held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory over the Lasers at Santiago Canyon.

On a corner kick, Jenny Ramirez sent the ball in and Knight connected on a header for the only score of the game.

Each team hit the post with shots later in the match. IVC's shot that hit the post came from sophomore forward Alexandra Benedict.

Sophomore keeper Yesenia Pulido made 10 saves in goal, including a nice stop on a one on one against Santiago Canyon's Lauren Sabella.

Irvine Valley's record moved to 2-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference, while Santiago Canyon improved to 6-0-0 and 2-0-0 in conference.
