Former Irvine Valley standout catcher Collin Villegas had a big senior season at Cal Poly San Luis Opispo.
Villegas was named first team all-Big West Conference after leading the Mustangs with 13 home runs.
The former Beckman High player's 13 homers tied for No. 10 on the all-time Cal Poly list for a single season. He also had 17 doubles and 41 RBI this past season.
Villegas hit .268 and tied another school record for walks in a single game with five in the season opener against Missouri State.
Villegas, an All-Big West second-team selection a year ago, started all 56 games this season in 2023. He started 42 contests in left field and 14 behind the plate.
Villegas produced 12 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI contests.
He arrived at Irvine Valley in 2020 as a sophomore and stood out immediately. Villegas hit .349 in a shortened 21-game schedule because of the pandemic. He had six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 17 RBI with three steals.
Villegas also racked up a .436 on base percentage and a .535 slugging percentage. He had eight-multiple hit games, including a 5 for 7 performance and four RBI in a game against San Bernadrino Valley.
He helped IVC to a 11-10 record in 2020 before the season was called.
Villegas was named the Lasers' athlete of the week early in the season after going 7 for 15 in four victories with two walks, two doubles, three runs and five RBI.
