Pitcher Tyler Venturelli signs with Cal State San Marcos
Tyler Venturelli, a sophomore pitcher for the Irvine Valley baseball team this past spring, has signed with NCAA Division II Cal State San Marcos.

Venturelli had a fine season as one of IVC's top three starting pitchers in 2017. He made 12 appearances and started 10 games.

Venturelli went 5-4 with one complete game and one save with an impressive 2.11 ERA. He ranked third in the Orange Empire Conference in earned run average.

He tied for first on the team in wins and had the lowest ERA on the squad.

Venturelli threw 68.1 innings and finished with 33 strikeouts. He walked just 11 batters on the year and didn't allow a home run on the season.

He pitched seven innings or more six times.

Venturelli went seven shutout innings and gave up only three hits and no walks with six strikeouts in a dominant effort against West LA on Feb. 9. IVC won the game, 8-0.

And one of his best performances came in a 8-2 Irvine Valley win over Saddleback. He pitched eight strong innings, giving up four hits and two runs (none earned).

He helped Irvine Valley finish with a record of 19-24 overall. The Lasers made the Southern California Regioinal Playoffs and won a playoff game this past season.

Venturelli, who went to Katella High before arriving at IVC, is headed to a Cal State San Marcos program that finished with an overall record of 17-33 last season.
