Baseball team loses tough one at Cypress on Tuesday

Irvine Valley's baseball team dropped another tough one-run game on Tuesday at Cypress.

Cypress pushed across a run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly to walk away with a 1-0 victory.

It was IVC's fourth one-run game in conference and third in its last five contests.

Irvine Valley, ranked 14th in Southern California, saw its record slip to 17-13 overall and 5-8 in conference.

No. 5 Cypress improved to 19-10 overall and 6-7 in conference.

IVC, Cypress and Saddleback went into Tuesday's action tied for fifth place in the ultra-competitive OEC.

It was a masterful pitching performance by both starters on Tuesday.

Irvine Valley sophomore Austin Reynolds and Cypress' Andrew Quezada turned in spectacular performances.

Quezada allowed just four hits over nine innings pitched while striking out eight batters.

Reynolds shut down the Chargers for eight innings, allowing just four hits. He had eight strikeouts.

Cypress scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice fly to center by Willia Aguilar off IVC freshman reliever Eric Brunst.

Tyler Smith walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on a base hit by Trevor Fonseca. Logan Swofford was then walked to load the bases to set up Aguilar.

Brunst took the loss and his record fell to 1-3.

IVC had four hits in the game, getting two each from sophomore shortstop Tyler Odekirk and sophomore right fielder Cole Joy.

The second game of the three-game series will be played on Thursday at Irvine Valley at 2 p.m.
