Women's beach volleyball scores two easy wins on Friday

Irvine Valley came away with two Orange Empire Conference wins on Friday at IVC.

Saddleback was considered the host school.

The Lasers defeated Saddleback, 4-1, and then beat Santiago Canyon, 5-0, in their second match.

Irvine Valley improved to 8-12 overall and 8-4 in the OEC.

In IVC's opener, the Lasers scored wins on the first, third and fourth courts and received forfeits at No. 4 and No. 5.

The No. 1 pair of sophomores Audrey Fowler and Avery Bennett stayed undefeated in conference play with a 21-19, 21-8, victory.

Saddleback won on court two, but IVC earned a tough 12-21, 21-16, 15-12 victory by the freshman No 3 pair of Maia Garcia and Jheazrell May Quindoza.

Santiago Canyon had just three pairs and Irvine Valley's duos won two of the matches in straight sets with Fower and Bennett (21-11, 21-3) and Garcia and Quindoza (23-21, 21-15).

On the second court, IVC's sophomore pair of Alya Mersin and Jayva Anderson pulled out a 21-19, 16-21, 18-16 win.

Irvine Valley plays again next Friday, hosting Golden West and Riverside with matches starting at 9 a.m.
