Women's beach volleyball team splits matches in Huntington

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team competed in Orange Empire Conference matches on Friday against Orange Coast and Fullerton at the Newland Street courts in Huntington Beach.

Orange Coast was the home team.

Irvine Valley received a win from its No. 1 pair of sophomores Audrey Fowler and Avery Bennett, 21-19. 21-14, against Orange Coast. Fowler and Bennett remained undefeated on conference contests.

IVC's No. pair of sophomores Jayla Anderson and Alya Mersin played well, but lost in three sets, 21-18, 17-21, 15-7.

Against Fullerton, Irvine Valley won the four matches that were played.

Fowler and Bennett won, 21-11, 21-8, Anderson and Mersin came out on top, 21-13, 21-10, IVC received a forfeit on the third court and the No. 4 pair of freshmen Valeria Leon and Jessica Lopez won, 21-7, 21-7.

Irvine Valley plays again next Friday against Saddleback and Santiago Canyon. Irvine Valley takes on Saddleback at 9 a.m. and Santiago Canyon at 10 a.m.

The match will be held at IVC, but Saddleback is the host.
