Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team started its 2025 season on Friday at home.
The Lasers took on two of the top teams in Southern California, facing Cerritos and then MiraCosta.
Cerritos defeated the Lasers, 4-1, in the early morning match and then MiraCosta beat IVC, 5-0, in the afternoon.
In the opening match against Cerritos, IVC's No. 1 pair of sophomores Audrey Fowler and Avery Bennett earned a 21-6, 17-21, 15-10 win over the Cerritos pair of Abby Gutierrez and Aiyana Sierra for the lone victory.
Cerritos swept on courts two through four.
And against MiraCosta, Irvine Valley dropped each match in straight sets.
The Lasers play again next Saturday (Feb. 15), hosting Mt. San Jacinto and Santa Barbara City with matches starting at 9:00 a.m.
