Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team finished the first half of its Orange Empire Conference schedule the way it started.
The Lasers recorded their seventh sweep in eight conference contests and 11th this season with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 over Orange Coast on Friday night at home.
Irvine Valley, which is ranked No. 1 in the state remained the only undefeated team in the state with the victory over No. 24 Orange Coast.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in conference, while Orange Coast fell to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in conference.
Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Aguilar finished with 16 kills, five digs, three blocks and two aces and sophomore outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa had 10 kills, five digs and two aces to lead the way.
Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni added seven kills, sophomore libero Gabi Lau had 10 digs and sophomore setter Megan Ramseyer chipped in four kills, seven digs and 35 assists. Ramseyer leads the state in assists per set.
Irvine Valley wasn't at its best on Friday, but still had enough to earn the victory.
The Lasers were down in the first and third sets, but rallied in both.
Irvine Valley closed out the first set on a 10-2 run. Aguilar put the set away with a kill.
The second set was tied, 5-5, and then Irvine Valley started to pull away. Up, 13-8, Irvine Valley scored five points in a row behind the serving of Ramseyer.
And ahead, 19-10, IVC won three points in a row behind the serving of Aguilar.
OCC climbed back to make it closer late, but IVC was able to put the set away.
Irvine Valley trailed, 7-5, and then, 13-9, in the third set. But the Lasers scored seven of the next eight points. IVC took a 15-14 lead on an Orange Coast hitting error and went up, 16-14, on a block by Aguilar.
Irvine valley scored four in a row on a kill by Aguilar, a block by freshman middle blocker alma Entesari, a kill by Ramseyer off an assist from Lau and then a kill by Aguilar.
The Lasers moved to match point at 24-17 on another block for a point, but OCC didn't give in and scored four points in a row. An ace by Evelyn Awai and an IVC hitting error made it 24-21.
But Aguilar ended the match with a kill off the OCC block.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at Cypress before returning home next Friday for a 6 p.m. match with Riverside.
