Irvine Valley's women's tennis team got off to a strong start in Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday at home.
The Lasers won two of three doubles matches and five of six contests in singles to earn a convincing 7-2 victory over Cypress.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 2-3 overall.
The Lasers got wins in singles from freshmen Sarah Mae Garcia, Samantha Paz, Samantha Schwarz and sophomores Karina Ryabokonova and Sierra Mazzarini.
Four of them came in straight sets, including Garcia winning, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles over Diana Dao.
Paz dropped just four games, Ryabokonova lost only three games and Mazzarini gave up just four games in wins.
Schwarz won in three sets, battling back from losing the first set. She came out on top, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles action, Garcia and Schwarz won easily, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles and Mazzarini and Ryabokonova came through with a 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Irvine Valley plays again next Thursday, traveling to Riverside for a 2 p.m. conference match.
