The Irvine Valley women's tennis team started opened the 2016 season with a 7-2 loss to El Camino at home on Thursday.
The Lasers played a scrimmage against San Diego Mesa on Tuesday.
Irvine Valley played El Camino tight through the singles portion on Thursday.
The Lasers won two matches and nearly captured a third.
Freshman Sarah Mae Garcia defeated Rachael Eshillonu, 0-6, 6-2, 10-5, at No. 1 singles for the Lasers.
And sophomore Karina Ryabokonova beat Natsuki Hoshiko , 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 at No. 3 singles for the Lasers.
Freshman Stephanie Rand lost a tough match to Nicole Zwiren, 0-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No. 6 singles for IVC.
El Camino also won the second, third and fifth singles matches in straight sets to take a 4-2 lead in matches going into doubles play.
The Warriors wept doubles to earn the overall 7-2 victory.
Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, hosting Mt. SAC at 2 p.m.
