Men's soccer team ends up in scoreless draw against Cypress

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team had another close Orange Empire Conference contest, tying Cypress, 0-0, on Tuesday at home.

The Lasers' record went to 5-5-6 overall. Through the first half of conference action, IVC is 1-3-2.

Cypress' record went to 8-1-5 overall and 1-1-4 in conference.

It has been a dogfight in the conference so far with not one team pulling away. Orange Coast and Fullerton lead with three wins and a tie apiece at the top of the standings.

All of Irvine Valley's six contests have gone down to the wire. IVC has a 1-0 win over Santiago Canyon and a pair of ties. It's three losses have all been by one goal.

On Tuesday against Cypress, Irvine Valley's best chance came in the 73rd minute when sophomore forward Benjamin Asabi hit the post on a shot. Freshman midfielder Joshua Lummis played a ball to freshman forward Max Kleinhammes, who then found Asabi in the box.

Irvine Valley sophomore goalie Nathan King stood out in goal. He stopped seven shots, including one on a left-footed shot by Nomar Ibarra and another on a shot by Sahand Amirjalali late in the contest.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at Golden West at 3 p.m. to start the second round of conference.
