Gibae Kim makes it three soccer players headed to Life Pacific

Irvine Valley sophomore midfielder Gibae Kim has committed to NAIA Life Pacific University in San Dimas, according to Warrior coach Shaun Harris.

Kim becomes the third Irvine Valley player that is headed to Life Pacific.

He joins sophomore striker Benjamin Asabi and sophomore midfielder Dowan Kim

Life Pacific is starting its program for men's soccer in the fall of 2020.

Gibae Kim, Dowan Kim and Asabi will be playing for Harris, who was a former associate head coach at Irvine Valley.

Kim was another big reason why Irvine Valley reached the Southern California Regional Playoffs this past season.

He was named second team all-Orange Empire Conference for IVC. Kim was a steady player throughout the season for IVC as a holding and defensive midfielder. He added one goal.

Kim, originally from South Korea, was a two-year starter for the Lasers. He played in 17 matches before having to be shut down because of an injury over IVC's last four contests of 2019. He started in 15 of those 17 matches.

Irivne Valley finished the season with a record of 8-8-7 overall.

During the 2018 season, Kim started all 21 matches and had six goals and two assists. The six goals came in the team's final seven contests. Two of his goals were game-winners.

Kim was fourth on the team in points with 14 from his central midfield position.

Irvine Valley reached the CCCAA Regional Playoffs and ended the season with a record of 8-10-3 overall in 2018.
