Women's tennis team falls to Orange Coast, but remains in first

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team dropped a tough one Thursday afternoon on the road.

Orange Coast edged the Lasers, 5-4, to pull into a tie for first place with IVC in the Orange Empire Conference.

It was OCC's fifth straight win in conference.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference. Orange Coast improved to 12-2 overall and 5-2 in conference.

The two teams split the six singles contests and then Orange Coast won two of three matches in doubles.

Irvine Valley earned wins in singles from sophomore Samantha Paz and freshmen Fiorella Dreux and Lauren MacDonnell.

Paz defeated JoAnn Taylor, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 position, Dreux beat Anouk De Graaux, 6-0, 6-0, at the fifth position and McDonnell defeated Katie Dahlberg, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.

But in doubles, IVC could only take one match. The team of sophomore Lou Baize and freshman Lorna Morris won, 8-1.

OCC earned an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles and a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to take the match overall.

Irvine Valley is back in action next Thursday, hosting four-year Wisconsin Whitewater at 3 p.m.
