Irvine Valley's women's tennis team stayed in second place in the Orange Empire Conference with a hard-fought 5-4 win at Cypress on Thursday.
The match was the first one of the second round of the conference schedule.
And it was IVC's second straight win over Cypress. The Lasers defeated the Chargers, 6-3, at home on Tuesday.
Irvine Valley won four of six matches in singles and took one of three matches in doubles to clinch the overall win.
The IVC doubles team of sophomores Ruth Chou and Christie Yamasaki won, 8-0, in the third position.
The No. 2 team of sophomores Ashley Athanas and Marissa Woolsey lost in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4).
In singles, Irvine Valley got wins from Athanas at the second spot as well as Chou at the No. 3 position, freshman Tiana Cung at No. 5 singles and sophomore Parmida Navabsafavi at the No. 6 position.
Each of Irvine Valley's wins in singles came in straight sets.
Navabsafavi won, 6-0, 6-0, for the Lasers.
Woolsey lost a tough match in three sets at No. 4 singles for IVC.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in conference. IVC's lone loss in conference so far has been to first-place Riverside.
